Description
Gennaker boom complete set with variable length
+ including front piece with water day connection and Code-Zero
+ deck mount included
+ including Wichard deck eye for rear mounting
Our gennaker poles are usable up to about 70sqm and a little more using a water stay.
(Please measure your necessary length!)
Use of the gennaker pole:
The gennaker tack sheet can be looped through the gennaker boom or run on the upper front shackle. By looping the tack sheet through, the maximum luff length of the gennaker is made possible. The hole in the gennaker boom through which the sheet is run is large enough to accommodate a spooled eye. This allows the gennaker to be pulled down and tensioned to the maximum.
The deck mount should be placed in the bow area near the bow tip. It is fixed to the bow by two M8 stainless steel screws. The deck bracket as well as the necessary screws and a shim are included. A deck eye is mounted on the deck at the aft end of the gennaker boom. The high quality deck eye from Wichard is included. The gennaker boom is fixed to the deck eye by a notch on the end piece with a roll pin. This allows the gennaker pole to be pushed in and fixed to the deck eye. With this procedure, your foredeck remains "Clean" and the adjustment succeeds super easy!
Optional for retracting and extending the gennaker pole: Optionally available is a second deck eye. This can be fixed more in the direction of the stern. This then allows you to quickly and easily retract the gennaker pole and again fix it in the aft position. The boom is then retracted. The additional deck eye costs 24 euros and is delivered on request with the gennaker boom.
Water day/Gennaker/Code0:
The waterstay is attached to the front end of the gennaker pole by means of a shackle and tensioned downward. In parallel, the gennaker or code0 sail is attached to the front end of the gennaker pole with a shackle and aligned upwards. In addition, however, the tack sheet can also be run through the gennaker pole. The openings are so large that this is easily possible.
Why a gennaker pole
Why use a gennaker pole?
Mostly the gennaker sail manufacturers only give the advice to attach the gennaker to the anchor fitting at the bow. From our point of view, this is not sufficient for the following reasons:
- The further forward the gennaker is sailed, the better the pressure response at the helm. On our boats (33 and 43 feet), the steering behavior has improved significantly at more acute angles to the wind, especially at greater wind forces >12 knots, and allows use at greater wind forces. The distance to the mainsail is greater and thus the airflow is far better.
- The distance from the foresail to the gennaker becomes much greater. This makes it much easier and better to furl a furling gennaker without the foresail always preventing a smooth furling process.
- If the gennakers are made correctly for the ship, then in my view the luff tension of the gennaker is too low in many cases. With a gennaker pole, one is much more flexible in trim here. Even on courses close downwind, with correct adjustment of the halyard and tack sheet, you can catch much more wind in the gennaker.
- When using two deck eyes, the gennaker boom can also be run in two positions for two sail types, for example gennaker and code 0.
