Hanse 325 in the Baltic: “All in all very satisfied”

Mr Bernd-Uwe Koschnicke from 38530 Didderse wrote to us after a full season. He is also available to answer questions if required.

Hello Mr Radler,

we have now sailed a whole season with TenderConnect and have come to value it greatly.

attached are a few pictures of our yacht (Hanse 325) with TenderConnect. We are very happy with the system, because in many situations it gives us clear advantages over our previous way of carrying or stowing the dinghy.

Fitting went well. I mounted the system slightly offset, so that the bathing ladder can still be used comfortably with the dinghy fixed at the stern (as you can see in the photos).

Manoeuvring in narrow marina lanes, as is usual in the Baltic, and coming alongside and leaving is exactly where TenderConnect offers many advantages. We used to tow our dinghy astern or heave it on deck and lash it down securely, which is laborious and often leaves unsightly scratches.

In harbour too the dinghy is ideally placed: with the valve open no water collects in it, and when we come back on board after a week or two we are ready to cast off again straight away. Only in a strong following wind at the berth have we noticed that the inflatable is sometimes tipped forward by the wind — here we would recommend fitting some kind of stop, or wedging a ball fender in between to keep the dinghy at a distance.

Under sail the inflatable sits safely and firmly at the stern and is no bother even in strong winds.

For going ashore or in an emergency the dinghy is now always ready at a moment's notice. We did notice, however, that the S version is too small for our 25 kg dinghy outboard, and we will therefore take up your special offer to move to the M version next season. As you assured us, we do not need to drill new holes for this but can use the holes of the S version, which suits us very well.

We are happy to show the system to anyone interested at Marina Heiligenhafen, by prior arrangement.

All in all we are very satisfied with TenderConnect and can recommend it.

Best regards,

Yours, Bernd-Uwe Koschnicke

1,600 nautical miles in the Mediterranean, 1,000 of them on passage — positive transom

Mr Thomas Schwabe uses TenderConnect on a yacht with a positive transom and wrote to us about it. If you also have a positive transom or a motor yacht, we are glad to advise you in more detail.

Hello Mrs Seitz,

I am only now getting round to answering your email.

In general I agree to your using the pdf on your website or elsewhere. Since on principle we do not move in so-called “social” media, we cannot join in the “liking”.

…

That is really my conclusion. As part of the revision one could take the conclusion out of the pdf, reword it if need be, and place it elsewhere as a statement in its own right.

This much in advance:

The essential advantage over other systems — davits included — is the stable mounting on passage. Of the 1,600 nautical miles during the summer months, we have some 1,000 of them on passage in the Mediterranean with TenderConnect quite literally on our back. With a positive transom, the firm pressure against the topsides is a stabilising factor.

Other transom shapes:

Fitting it to the “ita” taught me humility once again. The variety of structural solutions stands in the way of any blanket statement that “TenderConnect fits”. The yard workers' prediction alone — “fitting the bolts there will never work” — and the result actually achieved, if with difficulty, “it does after all”, would be worth a talk in itself.

A real advantage is gained when TenderConnect can be installed far enough to one side that access remains possible when berthing stern-to. The chance of that is in any case greater than with davits. The icing on the cake is when the outboard still has room as well.

Your approach is therefore right: evaluate the experience and provide concrete information for as many models as possible — from the best place to drill through the transom to checking whether it works with an outboard and, if so, which one.

Kind regards

Thomas Schwabe

Mallorca–Ibiza in a 1.5 m sea, handled by one person

Mr Peter Steidl from Nuremberg sent us these lines:

… we have now had Tender Connect in use for three months and have sailed twice from Mallorca to Ibiza and back, among other things in a 1.5 m sea.

In my view the system is currently the most trouble-free solution for yachts without a dinghy garage, solving the tiresome transport problem. One thing that mattered to us was that the system can be operated by one person, including fitting and removing the outboard (3.5 hp).

We really have tried a great many variants and we believe that with this system we have now found the best solution for us.

Warm regards from Nuremberg
